James is an accomplished cellist and composer from Lancaster and now based in York. He now sings at evensong in York Minster.
Both a composer and a researcher, James’ research focusses on the relationship between history and historical thinking and compositional practice. This involves attention to critical theory and historiography, as well an examination of the ways in which past composers have worked with notions of ‘the historical’.
Currently James is a graduate student at the Department of Music, Univeristy of York. He is working on a PhD entitled ‘Voodoo tradition?’: composer as curator and is supervised by Prof. Bill Brooks & Dr Áine Sheil.
